This Week in Kindergarten…

POPCORN WORDS: have, of, on

READING: In reading this week, we continued studying characters in our books. We learned that the same characters can be in more than one book. We also learned that there can be more than one strong character in a book. We practiced finding the characters that are the strong characters.

MATH: In math this week, we practiced making numbers 1-20 out of cubes and ten sticks. The kids partnered up and worked together making all the numbers. We practiced writing our numbers from 1-100…wow!! That was a lot of writing!!

WRITING: In writing this week, we started our opinion writing. We started by talking about the differences between facts and opinions. We read books about opinions…I Wanna New Room and I Wanna Iguana. We sorted sentences by reading them, then determining if they were a fact or an opinion. We tried our first opinion writing by choosing which way we like our ice cream…in a bowl or in a cone. Then we had to come up with 2 reasons why we like our ice cream that way and write those reasons. This week we will continue to learn more about opinion writing.

OUTSTANDINGS: There were 3 kinders in our class that were awarded OUTSTANDINGS for…BE NICE, WORK HARD, LEARN WELL!! Congratulations to Miles, Lauren and Zaidyn!! We are proud of you!!

MYSTERY READER: Kenzie’s dad surprised Kenzie and our class by reading us a couple of books!! Unfortunately, Mrs. Baker was not there (kids with doctor appointments) and does not have any pictures. I am so sorry to Kenzie and her dad!! Thank you for taking time off from school and coming to our school Mr. Branch!! We love to have mystery readers!!

PLANTING BEANS: We planted lima beans this week. We are learning about living and non-living things. Each kinder has their own plant they planted this week. They put soil in the cup, pushed 3 lima bean seeds into the soil, added more soil and then watered it. They are in the window sill and we are anxious for them to grow!

FOSSILS: We made our own fossils this week in class!! We made a rock out of clay and then chose something we wanted to use to imprint into the clay. We had to let them harden, but will be able to bring them home tomorrow.
