This Week in Kindergarten…

POPCORN WORDS: STOP, GO, YES, NO

COLOR WORD: ORANGE. We learned all about the color orange this week. We read books with orange characters, found pictures of things that were orange, made an orange book and made a super cute tiger as our orange craft!! It was fun to see all of the Kinders in their orange clothes!!

WRITING: This week in writing, we continued to practice drawing pictures with details, labeling the pictures and writing the sounds we hear in the words as we trace them. We got to write our popcorn words all by ourselves this week in our writing!! I hope you are enjoying reading all of their writing!! They work so hard at it!!

READING: This week in reading, we learned that We are Storybook Readers. We read some of our favorite Froggy books. We learned that readers look at pictures, remember them and then read. Readers also make sure the words and the pictures match. We learned that reading stories is more fun when readers change their voice for different characters!! The Kinders had fun listening to different character voices and then trying it on their own. We also added a couple of new things to our book boxes this week…the alphabet that we can read and the poem The Itsy Bitsy Spider. It was fun to practice “reading” these!

MATH: This week in math, we finished our first unit and took our first math test. Each Kinder went into their “office” (folder) to take their test, giving them their own space to complete their test. I look forward to sharing the tests with you at conferences. Our math skills are growing!! We just started unit #2 and practiced searching for groups of objects 1-10.

LITERACY TIME: This week during our literacy time, we tried literacy stations for the first time. During literacy stations, the Kinders rotated stations, practicing literacy skills on their own at 3 stations and with a teacher at 2 stations. They worked on color words, rhyming, popcorn words, beginning word sounds, letters and “reading” with sunglasses. They did AMAZING!! I was so impressed!!

MYSTERY READER: Sawyer’s mom surprised him by being a mystery reader on Thursday. He was so excited when he saw his mom walk in the door!! We heard a fun story…we love to listen to stories!!

MEET MRS. SANTANA…I would like to introduce you to Mrs. Jayme Santana. I feel very lucky that we have her as a para-pro in our classroom every morning!! Your Kinder gets a chance to work with Mrs. Santana everyday. She has been a wonderful help to us and the kids love her!! She is familiar with Georgetown…she has 2 boys that go to Georgetown. Her sons Kingston and Cruz are in second and fourth grade.
