This Week in Kindergarten…

Popcorn Words: an, can

Reading: This week in reading, we practiced reading with our partners. We found parts of our books that we were excited to share with our partners and showed them. We also practiced reading to ourselves…we are doing a great job of reading quietly at our reading spots!

Math: This week in math, we finished unit 2 in our math books. We also practiced addition and subtraction equations. I am so impressed with how well the Kinders are doing with adding and subtracting! Way to go! They took the unit 2 math test on Friday, going into their “offices” to take the test, giving everyone their own work space.

Writing: This week in writing, we started writing pattern books. We learned about how pattern books have repeating words on each page, but one word changes. Sometimes the word that changes is at the beginning of the sentence, at the end of the sentence and in the middle of the sentence. This week we wrote two pattern books!

Literacy: During our split lit time this week, we practiced many literacy skills. We learned about the words an and can and other words in the an word family. We also practiced ending sounds in words, rhyming, reading into whisper phones, our popcorn words and popcorn word books! We really enjoy our split lit time of day!

Mystery Readers: We were so excited to have two mystery readers this week! Elena was thrilled when her mom walked through the door! Our class loved listening to a unicorn story…we all know how much Elena loves unicorns!

Makinley was so excited to see her nana walk through the door! We enjoyed listening to a snow filled book called, Snowzilla! It was fun imagining a Snowzilla!

In our blue folders today, we brought home our popcorn word books/word cards from the month of November. Please continue to practice reading these books/words with your child at home.
