This Week in Kindergarten…

POPCORN WORDS: him, jump

READING: This week in reading, we began learning what an avid non-fiction reader looks like.  An avid reader learns interesting information and thinks “WOW”! and asks questions like “Huh?” and “Why”?  They also need to tell others what they learned and may use fancy words that go with the topic.  It was fun to watch reading buddies get excited about finding interesting things in their books and mark them with a sticky note! Their excitement was contagious!

MATH: This week during math, we practiced more partner equations as well as counting objects and comparing them. The Kinders are doing a great job of adding and subtracting equations all on their own!

WRITING: During writing this week, we practiced another informational writing topic. This week we learned and wrote all about goats. The Kinders are doing a great job reading and learning information about their topic, filling out a planning page, writing their books, drawing pictures to match the words and including labels in their writing. This next week, the Kinders will try writing an informational book all by themselves! They are going to be writing all about horses.

LITERACY: During our literacy time this week, the Kinders worked on many different skills. Split Lit time is one of their favorite times of the day. It gives them some choice on what skills they want to practice.

MYSTERY READER: Gabby was so excited when her mom, little brother and sister came through the door and surprised our class by being mystery readers! It was fun to listen to her mom read us the Dr. Seuss story One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

MAPS: This week, we learned all about maps. It was fun to read books about maps, color maps and make our own maps! The Kinders got really excited about their map books and enjoyed their new learning!

ROCK COLLECTIONS: A note came home on Friday about collecting rocks. We are going to be studying rocks and would like each Kinder to bring in between 10-12 rocks to look at. The rock collections are due on Thursday, April 25.
