This Week in Kindergarten…

POPCORN WORDS: have, on, of

READING: In reading this week, we continued reading non-fiction books. The Kinders were excited to see the new books that we got for our classroom! As readers, we practiced saying…”I wonder why?….” “Where does?….”  “What is this?….” We also worked on building our reading stamina.

MATH: During math this week, we practiced writing our numbers. This week, we wrote all the way to 100!! Wow!! We also worked on finding partners of 10. On Friday, we had a lot of fun playing math games!

WRITING: This week during writing, we continued our “how to” writing. We wrote about how to plant a seed. Since we planted our seeds last a week ago, we were able to write about this. We also wrote about how to get a bowl of cereal. The Kinders did a great job with their writing! They are doing a great job writing their sentences in order (first, next, then, last), drawing pictures and adding labels.

LITERACY: During our literacy time this week, we practiced our literacy skills. The Kinders enjoyed choosing from making CVC words, practicing popcorn words, making lists of shapes, reading books and matching letters to sounds.

OUR CATERPILLARS HAVE ARRIVED!! We are so excited to have welcomed a cup of caterpillars to our room this week! The Kinders were thrilled when I opened the box. They have been checking them out everyday (from our viewing area) to see if they have grown yet. I am excited for them to see how much bigger they have gotten over the weekend!

LIVING AND NON-LIVING: The Kinders enjoyed making their binoculars! It has been so fun to watch their excitement about this activity! They chose the color of the paper for their binoculars, decorated them with “living” pictures, put them on and went outside for a walk. We looked for living and non-living things on our walk. It was so much fun!!

5 SENSES: It was fun learning about the 5 senses! We used Mr. Potato Head to learn about the 5 senses. As a group, the kinders had to look at a picture, decide which of the senses would be used and put that body part on Mr. Potato Head. It was great team work!

SCIENCE EXPERIMENT HOW TO’S: This week it was fun to go to Mrs. Stutz’s classroom to listen to a how to book about making a tornado in a bottle. While we heard the book, we followed the steps of how to make one and actually made a tornado in a bottle!! In our classroom, we listened to a how to book about making a liquid rainbow. While we heard the book, we followed the steps and made a liquid rainbow.
