Disguise A Pumpkin

Today your Kinder is bringing home a FAMILY ART PROJECT. In your Kinder’s very full blue folder is an orange pumpkin. Please help disguise this pumpkin from being turned into pumpkin pie. Decorate it and be creative. Please cut out the pumpkin and return it to school by Monday, October 7. I am going to hang them up for everyone to enjoy! Have fun with this project!!

This is what to look for in your Kinder’s blue folder.

These are a couple of samples to give you an idea.

Show and Tell Writing

We are beginning a new unit in writing called Show and Tell writing.  To help your kinder in their writing, please assist them in choosing an item that they can write about and is suitable for school.

This item needs to be small enough to fit inside the paper bag. It should not be a treasured object as it will stay at school for a few days.  Some possible ideas are—a small stuffed animal, an action figure, a toy car, a beaded bracelet, etc—something that is of interest to your kinder.

Please do not choose an object that is breakable or expensive.

Your kinder needs to bring in their “show & tell” item tomorrow (Tuesday, Oct 1). This object will stay at school for a few days.

If you have any questions, please contact me. Thank you for your participation and support.

This Week in Kindergarten…

POPCORN WORDS: is, his, this

READING: This week during reading, we practiced sounding like a teacher when we read. We also practiced telling familiar stories and making sure our words match what is in the picture. One of the stories we had fun practicing this with is the story, The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The Kinders are doing a good job with remembering what the story is about and making their words match the pictures in the story!

MATH: During math this week, we learned about shapes and followed directions by coloring the shapes certain colors. We also compared numbers with blocks, practiced counting objects of a certain number and worked on writing the numbers 1, 2 and 3.

WRITING: This week during writing, we practiced writing three page stories. Together, we wrote about our free choice time. We chose three things we like to do during our play time – build with Legos, play in the house area, build with blocks. We drew pictures, added labels and even added a sentence. Then we wrote a story about three things we like to do on the playground – the swings, the field and the monkey bars. I am so proud of how hard the Kinders are working on becoming writers. They click their writing pens and are ready to write!

LITERACY: During our literacy time this week, we continued learning about the letters Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr. The Kinders were broke up into 2 groups and worked on different skills in both groups. In one group they worked on letter identification and letter sounds and in the other group they worked on rhyming words. The Kinders learned about letters through a fun game named CRASH! and going on a letter hunt. We had fun reading Llama Llama books this week, listening for rhyming words in the stories and making up more rhyming words.
