This Week in Kindergarten…

POPCORN WORDS: be, me, we, will

COLOR WORDS: black and white

We read books with black and white characters…

We made our own Harry the Dirty Dog…

READING: This week during reading, we learned more about reading storybooks. We put together everything we learned and practiced “reading” stories. The kinders are doing good job matching their words to the pictures on the page. We learned about looking at the character’s faces to tell how they are feeling. It was fun to use Elephant and Piggie books to practice this skill, they are such fun characters.

WRITING: During writing this week, we wrote about an important place, the library. We learned about how writers think about their important topic, draw it, write words and then write more words.

MATH: This week during math, we practiced writing our numbers one through five. We also learned more about shapes – shapes with straight lines and curvy lines. We reviewed for our math test and took our math test. The Kinders loved going to their “offices” to take their test. Their “office” gave them their own space to work on their own!

ABC BOOTCAMP: We learned about the letters T, U, V and W. We talked about what the letters look like, practiced making the letter sounds, writing the letters, learned about and colored things that start with that letter.

LEARNING BINDER: This week in kindergarten, we got learning binders! The kindergarteners were super excited to get these binders and work on the pages inside. They enjoyed tracing their names, letters, numbers and lines. It was a fun part of our week!

FIRE SAFETY: This week we learned about fire safety. We read some books, colored our own fire safety book, recognized numbers on flames and moved a fire truck and fire fighter around the fire station using positional words – above, below, over, under, next to.

PHONICS: We worked hard this week on letter names, letter sounds, popcorn words and names of friends in our class. We decided that we didn’t have any names that start with the letter P or G on our word wall. We wrote a letter to Pete the Cat and Gerald and asked them if they’d like to be on our word wall. They wrote us back! Mr. Waldie delivered letters to us and we were so excited! We also got letters from Llama Llama, Piggie, Harry the Dirty Dog, David and George. Wow!! It was such an exciting day to get all these letters! We are adding so many names to our word wall!
